As a family-owned business, GRABIT SARL story is centered around close-knit family members. The company’s roots traceback to 1800, when the first generation of the BouKhaled/Abiyounes families settled in Hammana, Lebanon. Coming from the Akoura region, their families were able to transform the land with their experience, knowledge, and abundant farming heritage. Under the brand Karaz Hammana, GRABIT launched several products.

Cherry Good Karaz Hammana is specialized in tree fruits and takes pride in growing, packaging, shipping, and marketing their produce locally and internationally. Today, the family is receiving the support of USAID/Lebanon and Rene Moawad Foundation allowing them to replant over 1,200 cherry trees in Hammana.

GRABIT is a zero-waste company, with innovative packaging, and full traceability products from orchard to table, offering a true cold chain operation, and using the latest technologies in the agri-food business.

The BouKhaled’s are a close-knit family with a farming story that goes back 100 years and several generations.  GRABIT proudly owns and operates cherry and apple orchards in Hammana and the Akoura region and they wanted to continue this family tradition.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

After conducting a comprehensive study on the cherry and fruit industry in Hammana and Lebanon, the company realized that the industry has not progressed, the farmers were under paid for their yield, and there was no national brand. GRABIT decided to introduce Cherry Good Karaz Hammana to the market, supporting the farmers as well as the sector move forward.

WHO IS BENIFITTING?

The Hammana farmers, and adjacent communities benefits from Cherry Good Karaz Hammana inspiring others to re-establish their orchards. Also, the company supported Hammana Cherry Festival, leading to the establishment of vibrant venues, and activities in the region reviving its economy. Last but not least, the end consumer can  now rely on a trustworthy brand.
